can't access some features on a website in Vista

Jul 28, 2007 2:15AM PDT

I'm using Vista Home Edition on my hp pavilion dv6000 laptop.

I go to a website that allows me to search a database and create various reports. I click on the Search option and try to access one of the various search methods available in the dropdown menu but nothing comes up. It is supposed to open a new form w/in the window/website but it literally does nothing - not even a blue circle indicating it is trying to do something.

I've added the website to my trusted sites, allowed popups from the site. I've tried stopping both my anti-virus and my anti-spyware before accessing the site. I've downloaded and installed every MS update for Vista.

When I go to the same website on my Dell laptop running Vista Premium I have no problems at all. I can access everything on the website w/o disabling anything - including the popup blocker.

Anyone else experience anything similar?

Might it be Javascript?

Click here and run the short test, ensuring the latest version of Javascript is installed.

Second, what security software do you have installed? Some actually continue to block content even after they are disabled.

Third, try another browser, such as Firefox or Opera, and see if the problem continues. That will determine if it's strictly an IE problem or not.

Finally, if you can, share the URL so we can check it out ourselves.

Let us know.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried everything you suggested, and below is the results. I'm getting closer, but still not there yet.

****Everything passed.

Second, what security software do you have installed? Some actually continue to block content even after they are disabled.
****avast! 4.7 antivirus and spyware terminator 2.0

Third, try another browser, such as Firefox or Opera, and see if the problem continues. That will determine if it's strictly an IE problem or not.
****I tried it in Firefox and got a little better results. I could access the search options and the secondary search window opened. But it only displayed in the top 1/5 of the window and the bottom half was blue. The top 1/5 of the window has a scrollbar exactly the length of what is showing, and I can scroll the length of the form although I can't see much of the window at a time given how little is showing.

Finally, if you can, share the URL so we can check it out ourselves.
****It's a members only website or I would send you the link. You have to be a realtor in WA state to access it.

Let us know.

When I try to do a Search on this website, I select the type of search I want to do and then in IE it does nothing and in Mozilla it opens up an entirely new instance of Mozilla (not just a new tab). Not sure if this has anything to do with the problem...
