by rogden66 / September 7, 2008 12:52 AM PDT

Microsoft did an upgrade to my desktop automatically, called a service pack 3, after which my Maxtor 3200 external hard drive stopped being recognized by my Windows XP system. A code 10 error appeared every time I tried to access through my device manager, and I cannot find a driver to operate this hard drive, I will many songs and pictures if I cannot access this external hard drive, please help. I went on the Maxtor site and they said, it is an internal driver that operates off of my system, what can I do to access the data on this external hard drive.

Hi - if you thinks that SP3 is at fault, go to Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs, and uninstall SP3. You could also try System Restore to an earlier date, before SP3 came along. But I am not sure an external drive needs a driver at all. You could find out through Driver Detective.com. If this does not work, we need a vital item for continuing: is your drive connected via USB, or a different sort of plug? - If any of the above help, do post back - Amos.

"Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09."

Why did you wait so long to do this. Go back now while you ponder what it could be. My thoughts are "motherboard driver package."

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
