Can't access Cnet on my Axim X50

Aug 12, 2005 12:37PM PDT

I just purchased a Dell Axim X50 running pocket pc 2003 second edition. I have been able to view virtually every web page I have attempted to view on the device. When I try to go to www.cnet.com the page starts to load and the background appears, then the Internet Explorer Windows closes and the program actually closes as well. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem, or if there are other websites that can cause this problem. I had no problem viewing www.cnet.com on my Toshiba e740 running pocket pc 2002.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I have the same issue with my HP 5455. The site CNET.COM[www.cnet.com] locks up my handheld, then it drops connection.

I'm guessing that something has changed on Cnet's site, as two months ago I was able to navigate the site without a problem. Upon reading your post, I tried to launch Cnet.com...the site half loaded, showing the background, a few links, and about half of the images, then PocketIE crashed. I have Microsoft's .NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP2, Macromedia FlashPlayer, and SuperWaba (Java) installed on my Axim X30 High (running WM 2003 SE), so I'm a little surprised that there's a problem loading the site.

Then, I tried loading cnet.com using Minimo, the Pocket PC version of Firefox, and IT WORKED! Well, to some degree. Minimo doesn't support Macromedia Flash yet, so the video wasn't available, about half of the images never loaded, and the links didn't work, but at least the site itself loaded without crashing the browser...it's a start.

Now, if there was a way to combine PocketIE's functionality with Minimo's ability to not crash (basically be a non-Microsoft product), us geeks might just be able to browse the site while we're, say, walking through the park. Err, wait...leaving our computers for a little fresh air and exercise...when was the last time any of us tried that? Grin

John

P.S. I have no problem (directly) loading the user forums in PocketIE, so I'm assuming it's some of Cnet.com's multimedia content that is causing the crashes.

I just accessed CNET on my hx4705, just to make sure there are no problems. It takes awhile...lots to load, but it works just fine.

yes, happens on my 4150, but it depends what you want to access. i usually just browse the forums with it and added them to my favorites because it loads slow. anywho, when you go to cnet.com, once you can see the left column containing the desktops, notebooks, handhelds, etc. links, click your "stop" button on your browser so it stops loading. it wont close then, and you can go where u please.

hope this helped

I just got on CNET.com with my HP hx2755 no problem, with Internet Explorer and NetFront v3.2. I like NetFront v3.2 because it loads the pages in a more orderly manner. It seems to handle the graphics much better.
