Question

Can someone tell me what embedding means?

Sep 1, 2012 3:25AM PDT

If I have an 'embed' code which I see sometimes..what does or how does one work with it? Why is there a need or desire to 'embed' something?
Thanks for any and all responses

Our office uses an "embedded PC" for a very simple reason. It's cost effective. In mass quantities a SBC (Single Board Computer) and custom code may be cheaper but we often deal with some production line gear and a simple PC with Windows and our apps are cheap to implement.

We used to start with a desktop then the world changed and we now use laptops or netbooks. As the development progresses we use an Embedded PC such as you see at the next link.

With those sorts of units we can "embed" the PC into the system.

Again, the reason is that we can get a working prototype in weeks rather than years.

I didn't understand a word you said! You made it sound a lot more complicated than it really is, especially after reading the answer that the next 2 people gave!

I can only add that most folk have a hard time understanding what it is.

Why did you dig up such an old post? Got a new question?

If you mean 'embed a link' that means 'put this code in the html of a page on your website' to link to this page.

If you didn't understand that, you probably don't have a website you maintain yourself, so it's not really meant for you. But it's a good question anyway.

Do you know how youtube has a code for every video and if you want to share that video on your blog or website you copy that code into the embed field from your blog or website? Embed is more like having something on your website but not from your website. It's borrowing. People can see videos or use tools on your website, tools that are not yours, tools which you just borrowed (embedded) from other sites. The main holders create an embedding code which you copy and paste in the embed field from your website. You can embed all sorts of things on your website from videos, to applications, a reporting tool, dashboards ( like Google docs) etc.
