Can someone please help me with upgrade suggestions?

Apr 18, 2004 9:54PM PDT

I would like to know if I can upgrade to XP? Or should I upgrade to Windows 2000? Or any other suggestions? I am currently in school and taking office programs , like Excel 2000 and powerpoint, etc, and would like to be able to have a system that will support these programs at home so I can study at home too. I have supplied my system information. Thank you so much for your help!! I am a newbie and have no clue!!

Original setup date: 12/20/2003

Hope this is helpful!!

your system is a bit on the marginal side for XP but it should work ok I would disable all active desktop items and set the system for best performance. I have just upgraded an old emachine that has a 400 mhz celeron, 96 meg of ram and a 4.3 gig hard drive on board video and sound and the system works great and is very stable, just don't expect a speed daemon.

Hi dude
I think you should go for WinXP.Now to go for Pro or Home edition is to be considered.I suggest visit www.microsoft.com for the above issue and other doubts you may have. One of PCs has Win98Se and Microsoft Office 2000 Premium. Its configuration is
Intel P3 600Mhz
256MB SDRAM
133Mhz external bus

I am a win 2000 user and it works great and is fully supported. I think you would have better luck with it. you may have hardware problems with XP, requiring you to buy many new components. your system might-- might-- run xp but it's not going to be happy. better to have an OS that more suited to your hardware. --fj

My preference is XP, but you really need to at least double your memory to run it. I ran one of my computers with a Pentium Celeron 1.1 for a year or so with only 128Mbs, then I put 512Mbs and then it worked well. This comp Im using, which I built has 1024Mbs and it flys. They recommend a minimum of 256Mbs to run XP, but 2000 will run on less, so it depends on if you want to spend a little money to upgrade your machine or not.

Good luck, whatever you decide.
