But I'd hit hp.com and see if the model p6's user or service manual sheds any light on that. The thing is, that doesn't look stock to the HP p6. I didn't find such on a p6 so maybe someone added it later.

Hmmmm, something like an old FM booster from the days of yore...but seriously, I've NEVER seen such, my curiosity is piqued...
Good question, I remember seeing something like that sitting on the dashboard of a Buick years back...not sure what to make of it.
You have what's left of some wifi antenna setup. The end with nothing present was "ripped out" from the simple clip-on type connection. Since, you mentioned it was routed to inside then the location should have a small remnant of the wire harness or yet the clip-n segment is loose in case or fallen elsewhere or small remnant remains attached. You have some type of wifi card or connection for sure. You need to buy a SMC type(female) that will connect and re-use the antenna portion with its small cable to fix or re-attach. You can't really expect to fix that broken cable. The cost of the replacement is minor, IMHO. Of course, you can totally remove and install an USB type wifi setup. You will need to remove the wifi card currently present in order to do that. Google away for either solution to purchase.
