Due to the open and wild out of control video encoders out there, you can't count of Plex to play say as many files as VLC Player.
There appears to be no cure but to learn about video encoding and transcoding. I use Handbrake a lot.
Thanks for taking a moment to help me out. I have a Sony Bravia 60w850b TV and I have downloaded the awesome Plex app. It's hooked up to my home server via WIFI and it's great! The only problem that I am having with it is that some movie files aren't recognized and are unable to play through the Sony TV. The files play fine on computer and through Plex (on the computer) - but the TV end is not playing.
My guess is that the TV is reading the files and trying to play them itself. Is it possible to either, 1. download new codecs for the Bravia to play all files including .avi, or 2. set up the TV and/or Plex so that the TV is streaming the file being played from the computer, rather than trying to read the file itself?
Or, if you have another solution, I'd love to know. Thanks so much!
