can Pepsi help men "score" with women?

by James Denison / December 27, 2009 12:34 PM PST

Seems they may be giving up, lol. Oh well, strike up another bad advertising idea that should have never made it out of the boardroom.

PepsiCo is removing the iPhone application that promised to help men "score" with different types of women about a week after it was criticized for stereotyping.

The soft drink and snack maker said in a statement it decided discontinuing the application was the "most appropriate course of action" after listening to "a variety of audiences."

PepsiCo had recently launched the "Amp up before you score" application to promote its Amp energy drink.

Damned if they do, Damned if they don't?

In another thread Pepsi wasn't advertising in the Super Bowl....so they were on the way out.

Now they do advertise and they shouldn't advertise?

I also prefer Coke, but I'm not campaigning against Pepsi.

I have to wonder who would download and install such an application on their iPhone to help them 'score' with women.

I can just see it;

"Hi, and what type of women are you?" he asks, casually.

"I'm a Foreign Exchange Student", she replies, off-handedly.

"Ohh, wait a minute", he says, as retrieves his iPhone from his pocket, opens up his "Amp up before you score" application and searches through the database for the appropriate chat-up line for Foreign Students.

"Hold on", he says in desperation as he can't find the right one.

"Ahh, 'Parlez-vous Anglais?'", he says, triumphantly.

"I'm Russian", she retorts, as she walks away with a disgusted look on her face.

I saw the app....

....on a coworker's iPhone. It was SO stereotypical that we figured it had to be a parody of a "How to Pick Up Girls" book.

What have you got against Pepsi, anyway? This is your second thread going after them.....I mean US. Happy

Was scouring the news and it jumped out at me. Wasn't looking for anything Pepsi, but after seeing that, was too much to pass up without comment.
