CAN PEOPLE BE THIS INCONSIDERATE?

May 24, 2006 11:51PM PDT

Yesterday Congress quickly passed a bill that would ban protests at Military funerals...within a certain number of feet. And who was the legislation targeted at? Was it to reign in a bunch of Cindy Sheehan-worshiping whack jobs? No, believe it or not, they don't even sink this low.

The bill was because of a Kansas church group. That's right...a church group. They were protesting at Military funerals around the country holding up signs saying lovely things like "God is your enemy" and "Thank God For IEDs." IEDs...as in improvised explosive device. These are the bombs Islamic terrorists in Iraq are using to kill our boys (and girls.) These "protesters" believe that the Military deaths are a sign of God's anger at our tolerance of homosexuals.

You read it right. These scumbags are going around interrupting these very sad occasions...because they hate gays. Picture the scene: a fallen soldier is being lowered into the ground...the 21-gun salute...maybe taps is playing. The widow is crying into her folded American flag...and here comes these religious fanatics interrupting a sacred moment. The person behind all this is Reverend Fred Phelps from Topeka, Kansas. This guy has made headlines protesting people who died from AIDS.

The things people think they can find in The Bible....unbelievable.

... there's no "certification" process for some to CALL themselves Christian. This is no Christian church IMO.

Church Group?
May 25, 2006 5:48AM PDT

Hey, it is in Texas, and probably all other states, that anyone can pitch a tent or rent a building and start a church with a mail order Preacher/Minister/Reverend
certificate, even you.

Agree with Evie, that Group is a disgrace to Christians, if the Church is claimed to be Christian.

Should be noted........

they are NOT connected to any Baptist Denomination. They are plain and simple a cult. Christians do not act like this.

I join you and many others in condemning this behaviour.

It does not represent the teaching of the Bible or the teaching of Christ. One thing that you should keep in mind is that, one day, these people will have to stand before a righteous God and defend their actions. Do you want to be in their shoes on that day? The Bible does say that it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of a righteous God.

Mark, as a Christian,...
May 25, 2006 10:13AM PDT

...I can safely say that these people are so out of the Christian mainstream so as to be laughable (were they not so sad). I also confess that I find it real difficult to be Christian towards such patent idiots.

The membership of this "church" is primarily the family of the "pastor." One can't help wondering - in a most un-Christian manner - if perhaps there's a little inbreeding happening there...

Texas recently passed the same law, Mark.

What amazes me is that there was no such outcry when the same group picketed the funeral of that gay man literally crucified in Montana. Reprehensible behavior is reprehensible behavior, regardless of the target.
