Can only view video in "negative" color

Jan 21, 2009 6:39AM PST

When trying to play video, either mpeg, dvd, avi, wmv etc., it only appears in color that i can only describe and "negative" like a film negative. I always keep my system updated with drivers and patches but i can't figure this one out for myself. I've tried converting video formats, using different players, adjusting settings, etc.

Thanks for any help.

System:
Custom built-winxp sp3-athlon xp2200-1g ram-160gb hd-using power dvd, windows media player, real player, quicktime.

Reversed color....
Jan 21, 2009 7:20AM PST

...is this happening on video clips only ? What about still photographs ? Normal computer graphics ? Things to check:
?see whether the video card is compatible with the mother board.
? try another monitor. Yours may be going south.
? see that drivers are from the manufacturers of the devices, not Windows' ....
? try different "refresh rates" of the monitor ...or color hue adjustments ...

Photos and streaming vid is fine...

its only with dvd's or vids from my camera or camcorder (mepgs or avi's). The video card is integrated with the mobo so the drivers came with the mobo cd. I have switched 3 different monitors as well as tried a separate pci video card. other sites have suggested disabling overlays which didn't work. color adjustments make some improvement but still unwatchable.

thanks for the reply....got any other suggestionsor secrets?

Only dvd from cameras ....

That leaves one possible reason:
?Check the recording/output type(effects) of the cameras- are they on reversed colors (film negative) ?

I Figured It Out...The Solution is.....

You must have the video playing at the time you make this change. During playback, right click on the desktop, select "Properties", then select the "Settings" tab, then the "Advanced" button. Then select the "Overlay" tab (remember the video must be playing all during this) and select the "Default" button to revert the settings back so they should be viewable. That fixed it for me. The trick was having the video playing, without it, the "Default" button is not even active.

Thanks for all the suggestions helping me rule out things.

Reversed video (like a negative)
Mar 14, 2010 3:34AM PDT

OMG ... tpcallanan THANKYOU. This was extremely frustrating!
This is the 2nd time in about 5 years this happened to me.
Last time I had to redeploy to fix it.
Thankyou. Your fix worked instantly.

PS... to help others spot how it "might" happen here's when my problem popped up.
My negative/reversed video problems occurred from the moment I scanned a negative & used Paint Shop Pro 7, to flip it, then save it.
That's a clue, but I don't know why that caused it.

1. Make sure my video driver is set to millions of colors or 24 to 32 bits of color.

2. Now I play the video with VLC PLAYER.
