"Can not start PC, no mouse" doesn't tell us much.

What happens when you turn the PC on? Do you get anything loading?

The usual procedure is for the BIOS to load first as it checks for hardware and memory and such, and it lists what it finds before starting to load Windows. At what stage does this PC stop, and what happens, does it freeze, or does it just continue in a loop, or what?

Assuming you can get through the initial BIOS POST procedure, (Power On, Self Test), can you then get into Safe Mode? To try that, when the BIOS has listed the main components, start tapping the F8 key gently until you get a list of Safe Mode options. If that works, then you can use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the first option, (it should already be selected anyway), then press Enter for Windows to load in Safe Mode.

This is a default mode and so no background pictures, just black, and all icons are larger. From here you can test and see if any programs work.

Let us know what happens.

I have been to safe mode,I can not log in because no pointer to move around.Now I did last known configuration,The desktop finally loaded,Mom had a microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse,In safe mode or setup I can use keyboard.I have the dell regular keyboard and mouse that shipped with my xp(wired) hooked up.When finally loaded the desktop is there,everything seems to load,then a error came up that symtac can not scan email messages go to the site.My guess is that it is expired.Once that error hits the screen thats it.It would not load the keyboard or mouse at her house,I have the wired as I mentioned her at my house,so basically if I could get a pointer to move around I might figure out some stuff.I would uninstall the symtac first and put something other(avg-avast free)I almost feel like it is stoppiung things,but it would not stop the pc from finding the drivers for the wired mouse/keyboard,would it? So lets see,I have been in safe mode at the log in screen Administrators or Owner but could not enter either one because no pointer or keyboard not working.I hope this will help better to help me .Thanks for your time!

Any generic keyboard or mouse should work

I would plug in your own keyboard and mouse leads into the back of the PC before switching on, then you should be able to get in.

I'm still not sure I understand though. 2 things;

1] You say you got into Windows in Safe Mode and you can use the keyboard. You should be able to use the mouse as well in that case. From Safe Mode you should be able to uninstall Symantec products like Norton's anti-virus.

2] I don't see why a fault with Norton would freeze both the keyboard and mouse. I wonder if there is something else not right.

can not log in because I have no way to control anything because there is no pointer or it does not highlight when I move the up down keys.I hope you understand,I am not very good at typing and explaining the lingo of tech talk.sorry
