Can not record from VCR

Oct 15, 2008 1:20AM PDT

I have a Sharp HDTV attached to a Motorola Cable Digital Converter and Toshiba VCR/DVD Combo. Everything performs fine except the VCR does not record. I can play back VCR recordings made from another VCR but it won't record with this setup. At least I get a blank screen when playing back a recording.

I am using an HDMI cord that is hooked to my Converter and 3-prong video and audio cable to the output of the VCR. My cable is attached to the converter. I realize that I have to switch my input to the proper one to view the VCR recordings.

Probably something simple that I have overlooked?? Would appreciate any help!

Description seems incomplete

You describe that the cable box is connected to the TV with an HDMI cable, and the DVD/VCR combo is connected to the TV with composite cables.

How is the VCR hooked up to your cable box? I assume that is what you are trying to record. Either coax, or another composite hookup should do it, but I'm not sure what you are using.

If it is coax, you have to have your VCR on channel 3 or 4 to record, depending on how you have it set up. If it is composite, you'll have to have it set to the correct Video input. There will be a button on the remote that says either VIDEO, TV/VCR, ANT or ANTENNA, or INPUT.

The quote could be a typo, if not...

"I am using an HDMI cord that is hooked to my Converter and 3-prong video and audio cable to the output of the VCR. My cable is attached to the converter"

Then that's might be your problem. It should be from "output" of the box to the "input" of the vcr. to record.

Another thing, I am not sure what is this 3-prong connectors you mention. Maybe consulting the manual would also be helpful.

Thanks for the advice. Stupid me I had the cable hooked to my converter box first instead of to my VCR first then my VCR hooked to my converter.
