Can not install Winfax, very strange!

May 24, 2005 7:07AM PDT

Hello everyone,
OS is Win98 SE.
Had to clean install Win 98se to cleap up my system.
Moved on to install rest of my apps and it all went well. Went on to install Winfax 8. and the installation has failed, meaning, the install CD did open and it was loading the installation, and loading and laoding and just never loaded. Tested the same CD on 3 other computers, one of them being the same type and it loaded in 5 sec and went on to install. Did test other apps on that problem puter just to make sure the CDRW was ok and it was. Also, I did have Winfax 8 on that computer before.

So, any idea what the heck is going on?

Chris

CDROMs just to verify the readability of the WinFax cd in your PC. It's a simple swap.

Winfax install problem

Thanks for your reply,
I did clean the CD again and it installs ok on all other computers. Instead of cleaning my CDRW, I swaped it with a new CDrom and still not able to install.
Any other ideas?
Chris

A little detective work is needed....

I would look at how your reinstall of Win98 was done.

1) Was some computer makers version of 98 used or a generic version?
2) Did you reinstall the mainboard drivers as well as modem/NIC/sound/video....etc..?
3) Any devices in Device Manager disabled?
4) Any antivirus/firewalls running?

It would appear that the install of WinFax is failing because it sees something not right in your hardware (modem perhaps?).

Thanks for your reply,

It was a 98se clean install.
All drives have been installed, all other applications are working just fine.
Nothing is disabled and no firewalls or antivirus.

I will go over the whole system again.

Thanks,
Chris
