Can Not Delete Firefox Shortcut Icons

Jun 3, 2007 5:19AM PDT

I just downloaded Firefox latest version and when completed I had three new shortcuts on my desktop. Error message stated "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk". I also tried dragging them to the recycle bin but that didn't work either.
How do I get rid of them?

Then MoveOnBoot should get the job done. Just install/run, point it to those files, and reboot again. Usually Firefox only creates one deletable shortcut on the desktop, though, so those three are curious.

Things to try:
1. Log off and log on again. Try to delete the icons if still present.
2. Reboot and same.
3. Go into My Computer, find the desktop folder in your profile (just a normale folder), see if the shortcuts are found there and try to delete them.
4. Same for the 'All users' profile.
5. Find a file in the Windows folder called shelliconcache and delete that.

Hope this helps.

They were gone when I returned to the desktop after visiting a couple of sites.
I have no idea what happened but they are gone.
Thanks for your input.
BTW, it has been said some problems are best handled by skillful and benign neglect. I guess this is a case in point.
