Question

Can NO LONGER BURN Video Files To My DVD's

Jan 8, 2014 9:25AM PST

I have WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM. I just started having trouble with my DESKTOP PC's DVD burner (TSSTCorp CDDVDW SH-S223C). I can no longer burn video files to my DVDs. I've tested EVERYTHING, including the 2 different DVD-Burning Software programs I have. I also went to my PC's DEVICE MANAGER to see if I needed to UPDATE DRIVERS, also ran Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware scans to see if there was any infected areas of my PC, and EVERYTHING came back "normal". If I put a regular movie DVD into the drive, or a DVD that I've ALREADY burned into the drive, the movies (and video files) DO PLAY NORMALLY. But now I can't seem to BURN any NEW DVD's. When I try to burn a NEW DVD, the SOFTWARE says that the DVD was burned correctly, but when you try to PLAY the DVD, nothing happens. NONE of the DVD-playing software I have (like REAL PLAYER, Windows Media Player, etc.) recognizes the DVD. Also, under "My Computer", NOTHING comes up for the DVD under the Windows D-DRIVE. Any suggestions or help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!

It's transformed from a DVDRW to a DVDROM. You'll need a new one.

In all probability the drive is kaput for burning, they do wear out. However, before burning select a slower burn speed to help test.

You can try returning to a prior period using the MS restore feature to a date before all this happened, if s/w glitched. Further, I use freebie VLC video player(google and install) as its about as flexible as it gets. When you play video be sure you select it from the players available, as in "open with" from menu. If nothing seems to work, then the drive is kaput, replace.
