Resolved Question

Can multiple access methods be used on the same network?

Mar 7, 2015 2:40AM PST

Hi, I'm new to networking and as part of a college assignment I have to plan a network and define the network access method used. In my research I found that CSMA/CD is for wired and CSMA/CA is for wireless. My network will have both wired and wireless connections and I was wondering if both can be used or is a network restricted to only one type?

Folk use routers with wired and WiFi by the millions right now. The answer must be yes.

Are you reporting that sellers, makers and the web won't answer this question?

Sorry, I just don't really know where to look. And since my network will contain both wired and wireless connections, is it classified as a LAN or a WLAN?

It's both.

It's a LAN with wireless access.
