Can I use Samsung TV remote to operate my Comcast cable box?

by bcbatch / January 15, 2009 10:07 AM PST

I have a Samsung 37" 550 series LCD tv and Comcast digital cable with a Scientific Atlanta cable box and Comcast DVR 3 Device remote. I like the Samsung TV remote with its big numbers and backlit display. Is there a way to program the Samsung remote to operate the Comcast cable box?

If not and I have to use the Comcast remote to control the TV, does anyone know what code to use where the volume control will function correctly with the Comcast remote? Right now when I press volume, you have to keep clicking the volume control to increase/decrease the volume as it only will change one bar at a time. I've tried all the numbers listed and even one I found through this board, but although I can operate the TV, the volume control doesn't work right.

Any help is appreciated.

The Samsung's remote control is not programmable for the cable box. I wish I had a more elegant way to say that, but it's short and to the point.

I've seen that issue several times, and I'm not sure why it only changes one level at a time. Your best bet is to contact Comcast and see if they have an updated code for this model.

I'll look into this on our end and see if there's a solution posted somewhere internally.

Got remote to control volume properly...

Thanks for your reply. Although I wish I could use the Samsung remote everything, I accept it cannot be done. So, I revisited the literature for the Comcast remote and realized that on the list of device codes it had one section for TVs which is what I was looking at, but it had another section for LCD TVs (which is where I should have been looking). When I used one of the codes listed there, it worked for my Samsung TV and controls the volume the way it should. So, at least I solved that part of my question.

Samsung 9000 LED TV touch screen remote

Can this be programmed to work on newest comcast dvr box? I have the option to watch tv and flip through channels on my new remote but it is useless right now because for some reason I cannot get it to function with my comcast cable box. I know in the past it was not possible, but has this changed? If so, how do I get it to work on this remote?
