Resolved Question

can I use my external HD to run windows for my desktop?

Aug 27, 2014 1:19AM PDT

My internal HD was ruined by a windows installation gone wrong, I haven't removed the internal HD yet. I want to attempt to boot from CD drive with the windows installation disc and hopefully I can install windows on the external HD and all will be ok.

Will this work?

Do I expect severe speed issues if it does work, since the external HD needs to be plugged in with a USB and whatnot?

Do I need to remove the broken internal HD now or can I wait for a more convenient time?

Is there anything special I'll need to do in BIOS other than changing the boot order to CD drive?

Not supported.

While you can research to see if there are workarounds I found them too tedious and prone to breakage so my choice is to write it's not supported which it is not. But you can go research and try anyway. No one I know supports that.
