can I use my digital camera as a webcam for my computer

by dragonboatlady / December 1, 2007 2:07 PM PST

I have this Sanyo Xacti 6 Megapixel digital camera, can I use it as a webcam to do a video conferencing with friends in window live messenger?
If it can, can someone tell me how? because I am not really good at computer things.

Thank you very much

Most cameras don't have this feature.

thanks for your suggestions and advice, but my problem is my computer is hooked up in a sitting room with TV as the monitor, I have tried couples of webcam and it is kind of blurry because the distance between the TV and the sitting area is about 10 to 15 feet away, so I want to find webcam that can give me the video and audio quality for that far distance, it does not have to be very sharp image but as long as not blurry and the people I talk to can see who I am, that is fine with me. Any suggestion, which brand or which webcam can do that, I am really appreciated someone can help me out on this.

Again Thanks a lot

I have seen the Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 work well from a distance of about 12 feet.

It has special software that lets you zoom the camera and adjust the microphone setting with the software. It also automatically adjusts to work in the available light. costs about $100.

... not a "suvillance camera" as such, but an ordinary camcorder connected to a monitor. The set up is used to entice you to buy the camcoder... Try putting camcorder as webcam unto Google for futher information...

Instead of a camcorder, you may be able to use a digicam in video mode. Of course, in both cases, you may need a driver for video capture via USB; otherwise, a video capture card is necesary....

You Could always buy a PlayStation 2 eye toy digital camera and plug it in to your PC it is just a USB Cam but it does have a mike you just have to search out drivers but it will show good footage up to 20 feet.

There are several cameras that can be used as a webcam, but there is another camera from Sanyo that is SANYO Xacti CA6 water resistent digital camera takes clear and crisp 6 megapixel JPEG images enabled with 6.37-megapixel CCD and image-adaptive data processing technology.

which can better use as a webcam.
