Can I use a 14.8 battery to replace a 11.1 battery?

May 14, 2009 1:46AM PDT

I have an Acer Aspire 5520 which uses an 11.1v battery (ASO7B51)and I'm shopping for an extended life or upgrade battery. The ones that have 5000mah are listed as 14.8 volts. Can I still use this or do I need to stick with the 11.1volt batteries. This is my first time buying a replacement battery and am very confused. Can someone please help a girl out!!!!

P.S. my goal is to find the one that lasts the longest as I'm not able to plug in for several hours at a time, due to travel for work.

Too far out of spec.

While I might grudgingly accept a replacement that's within a few percent this is so far out of spec that only out of desperation if you needed such a machine to function to get you off Gilligan's Island and you as The Professor would shim in some resistance to get it to work.

Let's just say no.

Wow Bob, please be honest would ya lol. OK, so clearly I should stick with the 11.1volt battery for my laptop. but is there a stronger battery that you can recommend that would give me more than two hours run time that would be compatible for my laptop?

Found right one hopefully

OK Bob, I found one at acer. Its a 11.4volt, 4800mah and part # is 1010872903. The site says compatible with the 5520 but so did the ones that werent. I called but couldn't understand the guy with a strong India accent and he just kept saying yes to all my questions. Can you verify the information before I waste my money.

Sadly...

I can't vet a battery from other than its maker. While you appear to have the right number and voltage the tales of battery woes have me offer this advice.

-> Always get the battery from the laptop's maker.

Battery found

Thanks Bob, The battery found is from Acer which is the same as my laptop so I'll just go with it and hopefully it's the one I need. Also just to let you know, the information you and the others provide to people like myself on this site is very valuable and appreciated, please keep up the good work.

And

I apologize if I talk about Giligan's Island today. Maybe I should have been watching Lost.

Anyhow, I'm about to decide on a new battery for my really old Compaq V3000. It returned from mom with a broken power jack that I fixed and now it's the usual 5 year old battery issue. 10 minutes tops.
Decision time here too.
