Can I uninstall FP2003

Apr 12, 2005 7:35AM PDT

and reinstall FP2000 without losing my website on the harddrive.....under My Documents/My Webs?

Evidently the FP Extensions at my website http://www.pcwarfare.com at Earthlink doesn't support FP2003 as they haven't updated it and therefore none of the forms pages (feedback/contactme and search site) components work.

I've tried removing some of the coding for the SearchSite page according to FP forums (the "_derived/nortbots.htm statement), but it says to do it while at the sitepage 'live' on the net and using the link to edit in FP......however, that particular part of the coding doesn't show up so I can't edit it out, and the page itself on my harddrive with the coding doesn't show it up either. The only place it shows up is if I am on the page itself and right click, choose View Source.....and you can't edit that. So I'm stuck behind a rock and a hardplace with it.

I tried removing the 'derived' folder on the site that refers to the nortbots.htm page; however, once I do that, then the submit button gives me the error of page cannot be found instead of the one I've been getting that tells me that in order to use FP Components, I have to have a server that has FP Extensions installed......which it does.

I also tried using a cgi script since Earthlink supports them, and putting it into the cgi folder there, and changing the coding according to what they told me to do on the searchsite page itself, and evidently the nortbots.htm derived crap is overriding it.

I get the impression that if I go back to FP2000 instead and use the coding I used before for these items, it would work since the last update Earthlink did for FP Extensions was FP2002......am I dreaming?

I don't need comments about dumping FP....I really like the program, and since I have a hosting site that supports FP Extensions and should be able to handle the FP Components, I'm looking for a solution to make it compatible.

Thanks........

I'll worry about trying to fix the feedback/contactme form page later if I can get the search site working first...

I did this and it wiped what was on the hard disk out. I installed the old FP2000 (I have both) and restored from backup DVD and it worked.

Just ranting that FP2003 was a waste of money for me.

OK...I can back up to either a dvd or

a separate partition and then import it back......

I'm also finding out that FP2000 was much more reliable.....

Am I right in assuming that the 2000 components should work correctly again on a hosting site that has FP2002 extensions installed?

Update......both problems are fixed
Apr 12, 2005 11:02AM PDT

turns out I used my FTP program to upload my pages and it corrupted the components........when I deleted the pages from the site and uploaded instead from the Publish to Remote Site within FP, they worked perfectly. Simple solution to a problem that drove me nuts for a week already. I probably could put my hit counter back on the pages and upload the pages again the same way since that component also wouldn't work before.

Now I know........and I hope it helps somebody else who runs into this issue. Do not use the FTP option in Publish.....use Remote Site instead.
