Resolved Question

Can I take RAM from HP Pavilion dv6000 and move to my new HP

Sep 14, 2011 3:05AM PDT

I recently bought a new HP laptop with 8GB RAM (but apparently it can hold up to 16GB). My friend just got rid of his HP Pavilion dv6000. The dv6000 is still working (it just doesn't have a battery). Is the RAM in that laptop compatible with my current laptop? If so, is it simply a matter of pulling the RAM from the dv6000 and installing it onto my laptop?

Current machines are DDR3 and the dv6000 line had at best DDR2. But I advise to not try this. Why? The DV6000 is well discussed for its issues and you may discover why if you poke around it too much.

I've been told by Best Buy that more is faster!

As often as it's asked, it should be a stickie.
