Jun 25, 2011 2:23AM PDT

I have AVG Free and the free version of Malwarebytes. Can I have both AVG Free and the paid version of Malwarebytes on my system? I would like having the realtime scanning in the paid version of Malwarebytes if it is possible. I don't know if they would confilct??

Hello styxblue,

Using more than one security software with active resident part is not recommended.
More information can be found in this forum post.

AVG works well with Malwarebytes Free (Which does not include resident part).

Thank you

Can I run 2 paid versions of security software?
Aug 8, 2011 4:27AM PDT
I am running the paid version of both AVG and SuperAntiSpyware. Can this create a problem? My computer, with a Win XP OS, seems to be getting slower, but I've attributed that to the fact that it's almost 5 years old. I'm a little concerned after reading this post that I may have issues. In fact, I'm quite concerned after reading a lot of the posts regarding AVG.

Hello lintay,

You should never run multiple real-time protection ] - please read this post for more information.

2 real time protections
Aug 9, 2011 7:01AM PDT

I was not aware of this before. Even though I purchased AVG to make sure I have the best protection and it's updated daily, I still got a bad virus that locked me out of IE and Firefox, as well as deactivating AVG. After getting my computer back from the repair shop, the tech suggested SuperAntiSpyware for extra protection. I'm afraid to remove it and suffer the same virus problem. What's a person to do?

Thanks for the advise.

Did you find how it got infected?
Aug 9, 2011 7:15AM PDT

Today's malware for instance uses social engineering to get folk to install a CODEC or perform an action to install the malware or pests.

So far there is no protection for that. So my question is this. Do you think it's time for the PC to get locked down so tight a person can't modify it?

2 real time protections

Hi R. Proffit;

No, I don't want it locked down so tight that a person can't modify it,
but I try advise from professionals to keep out of trouble. I'm not a
technical person, so all this advise is appreciated. (To show my lack of
knowledge, I don't even know what CODEC is.) I can't purchase a new
laptop due to a virus bringing mine down and when I got the one that
locked me out of any internet access, I didn't have any choice but to
take it to a shop. Next time I may not be lucky enough to get repairs to
fix things....

Hi JiriF;

I would have contacted AVG, but as mentioned before, I couldn't gain access to the internet to do so. I don't have a phone number to call AVG for help. Like mentioned, I'm not technical, so describing the issue at the time may not have helped AVG, since I don't know specifically what to look for. How would I know if a file is infected if AVG doesn't find it? This is why I was advised to use another program - to hopefully catch what AVG doesn't.

Now that I've got a desktop computer that works fairly well, maybe I'll be able to work on any problem at the time it happens, but I'm praying I never get another virus that causes the damage the last one did!

Thanks for your help.

Hello lintay,

please contact AVG technical support in case an infection gets through all the protection layers. They will assist you removing the infection and restoring your system configuration:
http://www.avg.com/support
You may also describe the issue on this forum in details. One of AVG moderators will analyze the situation and recommend further steps.

In case you suspect some file to be infected while it is not detected, please send it to our virus analysts as described in this forum post. We will reply to your message with an analysis result and release a new AVG update, if necessary.

Thank you.
