Question

Can I reinstall Lion over ML with TimeMachine?

Jul 30, 2012 2:04AM PDT

I installed ML on my iMac and have serious problems since. I want to go back to Lion. I've been using TimeMachine to backup on an external disk. If I restore to the day before I installed ML, will Lion be reinstalled too - i.e. the iMac will be exactly as it was before installing ML?

And if so, should I start up using comm+R then restore from TimeMachine

Answer
You'll need your recovery discs

You'll need your recovery discs that came with your computer, then it should be fine. Insert the disk, boot with C held down, select Disk Utility from the menu utility after selecting the installation language, format the drive - Mac OS Extended, GUID partition table and then select to restore from TM.

I wish you the best of luck Happy

It's not possible to go from Snow Leopard to ML using Time Machine.

I thought you wanted Lion?

All you need is to wipe/format the disc, that can be done with your recovery discs.
Then you will be able to restore from TM
If you have Lion on the TM it will work
If you don't believe me just skip it!!

Installing ML wiped out Lion recovery
Aug 4, 2012 7:05AM PDT

Sorry, I meant you can't go from SL to Lion. I'm quite confused actually. According to some on another forum, installing ML, then backing up with Time Machine, wipes out the Lion recovery possibility from TM. But others are questioning this, and as I don't know enough about the issues I'm afraid of trying something that might make things worse! My iMac has been ok for the last few days so I'm hoping the problem was a temporary thing. Thanks for the advice anyway.

ML can't wipe out Lion possibility

Take a deep breath and think!
If you have Lion on your backup, and you are using a formatted disc, why wouldn't that work?
I've tried almost the same and it worked just perfect.

Don't be afraid, go for it!!
