I want to put a faster processor in my wife's custom-built machine. Her board is a MSI 7366-020, and it has a Pentium 1.8GHz on it. I have a separate and redundant machine which has a Pentium (R) 4CPU 2.8GHz in it, which I would like to transfer over to my wife's machine.
The original packaging for the MSI board states, "MCP73 Series Chipset Based. Designed for Intel Core 2 Quad/Duo, Pentium Dual-core, and Celeron processors." At first sight it seems this would be OK, but so little do I know about processors that 'Core 2' means nothing to me. Will this be a simple take-out-and-put-in job, please?
I also want to at least double the RAM on her machine. At present it has a 1GB RAM card, with a second slot empty beside it. I have had the card out and studied it - it will be simple enough to buy another of the same spec., although I would prefer to put in a new pair of 2GB ones, giving a total of 4GB. Again - is this possible on that board, and is it another take-out-and-put-in job, without involving any more component issues?
