Question

can i mix toshiba laptop cords?

May 6, 2018 4:23AM PDT

my toshiba laptop cords always came in 2 pieces. the part that connects to the laptop itself is messing up. i took the cord apart, and connected my old toshiba plug in, and attached it to my new toshiba cord. basically i now have a cord made of two different toshiba pieces. (does this make sense??). is this bad for my laptop?

Well, a power adapter has three parts:
1. The cord between then mains and the transformer
2. The transformer itself, that makes 19V DC from 110 or 230V AC.
3. The cord between the transformer and the laptop.

If #2 is the same, and #1 and #3 fit into it, all is fine.

If its from the same brand (so in your case it is) and the plug-in is the same, you can use it without problems. I have done this also several times with other laptops and cords.

If you change the transformer for example with another one the most important thing to check is the voltage: is it the same as the original one? (normally its always 19V....but its always better to check). If the voltage is too high, the battery and your computer can be damaged....if its too low, then it probably will not work.
