Question

Can I make my laptop into a plugged in, not charging mode?

Apr 13, 2015 10:29PM PDT

I just bought an Asus A455LN WX004D laptop and its battery is non removable
this means that it acts just like mobile batteries, use it until the battery drops and has to leave it when charging and it is very inconvenient when i'm playing games
can i somehow make it into pluuged in, not charging mode so that it acts like it runs only from AC power so it won't damage the battery even when i'm using it for hours
I have accidentally got into this mode once and i don't know if it was a malfunction or it is actually a mode you can choose
please help me if you have any suggestions
thanks

Answer
You're thinking of very old laptops.

I do encounter folk that think charging or being on AC with the battery in damages the battery. These folk either catch up or can't be helped.

At the office we'd had laptops on AC with the battery in for 5 years. The machines came out of service with really good battery times. What is this damage you are asking about?

It is definitely possible, depending on what laptop/software you use, as I recently found out unintentionally when my battery wouldn't charge. I have a Toshiba Satellite and on the bottom right hand corner (near the clock) I came across an icon called 'Peak Shift Function'. With this function you can decide when your battery charges, including the time of day, etc. I have found out through unintentional experience that it works! So the software does exist but not sure about Asus computers.
