In short, No.

The registry is not compatible from 2000 to 98, so you essentially have your near-normal clean install of the OS. No software or prior setting will survive.

The issue of the file system being compatible may be an issue as well. If it's NTFS, then Windows 98 will not install. Partitition Magic can convert NTFS to FAT32, but the loss of programs and settings is certain.

Frankie installed Win 2000 on a clean HD, Didn't
like what he say and had to do many things, before
could install Win 98 ?SE

1 Delete every thing on HD

2 Boot with F10 / BIOS set-up and restore the
settings from a special floppy disk, Mt computer
is from Compaq and the BIOS set-up has a
provision to save the settings to a floppy disk
and also restore it from that. This floppy is not
readable by any programs, including O/S

3 Boot from a floppy disk and re-format the HD
from NTFS (Win 2000) to FAT32 (Win 9Cool

4 Install O/S (Win9Cool and all related softwares

Thanks for your reply.

That's what I was afraid of. I know I converted to NTFS when I installed Win2K. However...

If I have nothing I wish to save on this PC - Do you think Partition Magic is worth a shot?

Otherwise, it would appear my only other option is to install XP or buy a new hard drive...???

Then your original question about "over" is not an issue.

Simply use DELPART.EXE from http://www.bootdisk.com to delete the NTFS partitions and install 98 as if new...
