Answer
I advise against that.

The stories about this and more mean I would never allow such.

Well I did let HP do that on a wiped and factory restored laptop. But even that ended up with a dead laptop at their hands. To boot, HP walked out on the warranty and I'm out one laptop.

So my answer is no.

Answer
I'd say no and no

I'd say no and no. No, this is a volunteer site so no remote help is officially offered, and if such an offer were extended by someone, there's no guarantee of it being safe or secure.
