HP Sells Them...
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / October 16, 2007 2:46 AM PDT

..and they're not that expensive, but if you can't access the computer, you can't create a new Recovery disc from it.. Generally though.. most HP computers give you the option to create a Recovery disc from their Recovery partition.. I create those discs immediately upon setup the first time the computer is started.

Hope this helps.

"can't login" I can usually fix that. Two ways.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / October 16, 2007 5:07 AM PDT
In reply to: oh ok..

1. Boot SAFE MODE and use the Admin account that shows up.

2. Did it ask for a password and pressing enter fail? I can still fix that. It's only slightly advanced and I'm going to supply the link but not duplicate the content here.

The HP paperwork says
by PudgyOne / October 16, 2007 4:48 AM PDT

Restore your computer without disks

To repair or restore from the hard drive, restart the computer and press F11 when prompted.

To burn your own set of recovery disks, select Start > All Programs > System Recovery > PC Recovery Disk Creator

That's all there is to it.

This also works to make recovery disks for Compaq.

hitting F11 when you boot up?

Then try the recovery program.

Let's take this one step at a time. Do you have any files and/or pictures on it that need saved?

Then if you hit

In reply to: no

F11 and choose destructive repair, it will put the computer back to the way it was when you bought it.

Destructive repair reformats the drive and installs the system from the partition. I had to do this with my sons computer. Before I did, I booted the computer with a Knoppix CD and burned the files to my external DVD burner.
