Resolved Question

Can I create a Pdf file on my system?

Feb 24, 2016 6:37AM PST

Have an older HP Pavilion laptop running Vista. It is loaded with WordPerfect 8, and I also installed Open Office a few years ago. System has been used primarily as a social media machine, but now I have a large WordPerfect file that I need to send as a Pdf, but I can't find a way to create it. I have never done this before, but I tried to work it out and ended up at a screen that says I need to pay Adobe for the right to create Pdfs and then the Pdf will be in a Word format, which is not always compatible with WordPerfect. Would I be better off transferring the document to Open Office and then see if I can do a Pdf, or is there an easier way?

I use a "PDF Printer" and get it from Ninite.

It worked

Downloaded PDF Creator. The only problem was the OS version was so old I also had to update to .NET 4.6.1 which Ninite made easy. Thanks for the tip.

My remaining problem is that the PDF is in Word/Works format so I can't modify the document. I do not have Word loaded on the machine. I'm stuck with read only capability, and it's time consuming to work around this problem. Any other tips?

Word docs should be loadable on many editors.

So many I can't list them all. Works? Not so many.

Also at Ninite.com is LibreOffice which is a nice update to OpenOffice. You may want to install that to work on Word docs.

A pdf can't be in Word format.

A pdf is in pdf-format by definition. It has filetype .pdf and you need a pdf editor (like Adobe Acrobat) to edit it.

A Word document has filetype .doc or .docx or .rft and you can edit them with MS Office, Libre Office and (if .rtf) even with Wordpad. Other word processors might work also.
