Can I copy Office to my other laptop?

Sep 13, 2005 7:31PM PDT

Hi

I have a legally licenced "Office" on my desktop. Can I copy, say, Microsoft Word to my laptop? If so, how? Do I need the original CD? I don't have it anymore.

Regards,
Robert

Let me add my solution. Open Office.

If you need another Office, then install OPEN OFFICE from http://www.openoffice.org

To ensure the best interoperability, try exchanging the documents in RTF (format) or Word 97 .DOC files.

A bonus will be you will gain PDF creation.

According to the EULA (End-User License Agreement), that you can read yourself via the Help command (in any Office program), Help>About: View the End-User License Agreement

1.1 Installation and use. You may:
(a) install and use a copy of the Software on one personal computer or other device; and
(b) install an additional copy of the Software on a second, portable device for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the Software.

Don't have the original CD?

That might be a problem. You do need any CD of the same version that you have your Product Code number for.

So, while you need a CD, (since you can not just copy the installation files from on computer to another) you can use any other "same version" installation CD.

The CDs are NOT keyed to the Product Code, other than a Product Code can only be used for one type of Office. i.e. A Product Code for Office 2003 Standard, with not work with Office 2003 Small Business.
