Why not use the laptop's own dvd recorder? Example at http://camstudio.org/ and for the burn to DVD, I suggest DVD FLICK.

Thanks for any and all replies, however I must ask - there is no such thing as vga to composite video converter that will do this job...say i.e. i want to "download" or record a concert vid i found on youtube - am i to understand there is just no way to connect the laptop to anything external - my laptop has burner - dvd cd etc. - i just do not know how to use to d/l or burn as such...anything else to add before i call it quits? again, thanks...

But it's finicky, about 100 bucks and sadly now that you mentioned youtube we can't discuss it further.

Good luck,
