Question

Can i change a saved Media_Radio.exe.kp5pvas to MP3

Mar 30, 2012 11:16PM PDT

i recorded an interview on skype. at the end of the call, it did NOT go into the correct folder as it has 20 times previously. it went instead to my pictures folder. obviously i cannot listen to it. what can i change the exe.kp5pvas so that i can? or, is the interview totally lost?
i tried to copy and paste to a new folder, but it simply gives me the exe.kp stuff.

The Pictures folder is just another folder like any other on the system and so there is nothing there that would prevent you playing the file if it is in the correct format.

But what format is this file, what file extension?

I see Media_Radio.exe.kp5pvas but I don't see a file extension at the end. If your system does not display file extensions, find the "Folder Options" icon in the Control Panel and open that. In the new window click the View tab, then find the entry for "Hide extensions for known file types" and remove the tick for that. That should display all file extensions for your files.

Then, if this Media_Radio.exe.kp5pvas has an audio extension, eg .mp3, it will play as normal.

If that works and you want to rename the file, right click it, select "Rename", and give it your own name. Don't forget to preserve that file extension otherwise it will not play.

Frankly I am stumped

If the procedure you went through to record this interview was exactly the same as the procedure you have done successfully before, then I am unsure why it didn't work for you.

As I said, it doesn't matter which folder the file is saved in. If it is the same file type as before then it should still work.

This is what I don't understand about Media_Radio.exe.kp5pvas.partial

1] .partial suggests this is a partial file. My experience with that is, the download didn't complete. If you have no opportunity to complete it now, then it will not work.

2] Media_Roxio - I don't know what that is.

3] Media_Radio.exe. - A .exe file is an executable file. Executables are application files like, for example, winword.exe which, when run or executed, opens Microsoft Word. In all cases I have known the .exe is at the end of a file name, eg winword.exe . I have not seen that in the middle of a file name.

What application did you use to record this Skype interview?

granted strange problems can occur....but, now i'm almost afraid to use this recording system.
can you suggest other free programs?
