Can hardly see anything on IBM Thinkpad LCD - Real dark

Jan 4, 2005 11:23PM PST

IBM Thinkpad 600E, Windows XP Pro. Laptop boots up correctely but the picture on the LCD is very, very dim. Can hardly see. If I shine a flaslight on the screen can see the desktop, etc to log on windows or shut down. Tried moving the brightness slide bar; it doesn't change anything. Push the Fn key and held down the "Home" key to change the brightness; but it doesn't change anything. If I hook up an external monitor works fine. Can someone tell me what might be wrong, i.e. bad LCD screen or something else. Thanks. Jerry

same problem, flashlights?
Feb 4, 2005 10:36PM PST

Hi countrycorner, I have a thinkpad T21, and am having the same problem. Mine was preceeded by two days of flickering, and then today it just went dead. I can also hook it up to an external monitor and everything is fine.

Wondering if you've found any solutions anywhere?

Thanks

Inverters or backlights
Feb 5, 2005 2:45AM PST

You are both having an inverter or backlight failure. First and most economical thing to try is the inverter. If you need a backlight replaced we do these here I dont reccomend trying for the first time. Had a Sony GRX 560 in last week with a 16.1 inch screen. He attempted to change the backlight and tore a video transfer cable from the glass so its basically a replace only option.
