David,
Here is a link that I found helpful in getting me out of an audio problem.

Like you I am behind a software firewall (ZoneAlarm). My MSN Messenger 6.1.0211 audio will not work with Z/A so I disable and use the XP's ICF when using messenger audio. Working your way down thru Connectivity: "Using a firewall to connect to .NET Messenger Service" you will find these instructions:

I did them all and audio now works using XP Internet Connection Firewall. None of may be useful but I am tossing it out for whatever it's worth.
Good Luck!![]()

Running Windows XP-Pro-SP-1. standalone user behind a software firewall and a router.
2.4GHz processor and 786 MB RAM.
MSN Messenger version 6.1.0211.
the problem seems to be with MSN Messenger in that I can see the webcam of the other user as they can, mine.
however there is no audio.
Wizard says audio is ok.
I thought initially it might have been as a result of the software firewall and router, however I am able to get both audio and Webcam in Yahoo Messenger.
Problem is that there is a time lapse in the video feed from Yahoo, whereas MSN seems to stream in real time.
has anyone else experienced this problem and is there some workaround for it?
AV is uptodate as are security patches from Microsoft. I am also running one of the last versions of Java that were shipped with the O/S so no need to go to Sun Microsystems.
have the current Active -X and Macromediaflash.
cannot think of any other information that may be required.
your help and suggestions welcome and appreciated.
thank you.
