Can'g get to desktop

Mar 14, 2010 11:31PM PDT

I have a HP Pavilion 735N and when you turn it on it goes to the HP page. I cannot get past this to get onto the desktop. I don't mind formating if I have to but I have pictures I would like to recover first. Can you tell me what has happened and if this can be fixed?
Thank you for any help you can offer.

Let's say

There is no other message. If we must save files I remove the hard drive, place the hard drive into some USB hard drive enclosure and let the owner copy out their files on another machine.

Then we look into what it takes to repair the machine.

Can't get past the hp screen

No there are no other messages. It boots up to the blue hp screen and sits there. When I first tried to format it said txtsetup.sif status 4128 corrupt or missing. It is running windows xp home edition. Not sure exactly how to take out the hard drive and put it in another one. I know some about pc's but not that much.

Then it's off to the shop counter?

There are too many web sites and more about replacing a hard drive to putting one into some USB enclosure for me to write any more about that method. If those sites are not for you, it's time for a trip to the shop you take your machine to after you ask if they can help you save your files.
