well first off the reason I am going with Sony again is because there camcorders are the best at recording in total darkness and I need a camcorder that can record in total darkness so I can record my dog my dog gets seizures and if she has an episode at night well then i need to be able to record it so her vet can see whats going on neways what Sony lied about was they claimed that I would be able to connect an infrared Light straight to the HC36 Mini DV camcorder and when i got the camcorder their was no place to connect the infrared light so when I called them and told them that their web site said it was possible to do they didnt have an answer for that all they did was pass me back and forth and today I was told by my mom that they changed their change their web site so i returned the camcorder and now i have to find a different one the has a powered accessory shoe and one that I can connect a infrared Light I was going to go with The Sony DCR-DVD305 but after reading all the reviews that said it was just better to send a few more bucks and get the Sony DCR-DVD405 thats what i decided to do and I read Sony's web site again but after what happened with the HC 36 Mini DV camcorder I would just rather ask people that own the camcorder to find out if it is possible

Bummer about your dog...

I had a Beagle that would get seizures... He lived to be about 14...

Bummer about the Sony misinformation, too.

Will you be getting the camcorder at a brick and mortar store or online? If you get it at a brick/mortar store (I know it usually costs a litlle more), you can get them to make it all work and show you it works before you buy it... Do you really need the external light in the shoe? The 405 has an IR emitter built-in, and they work up to about 10-15 ft away (the one in my HDR-HC1 does, anyway)... I know adding the extra emitter and using the hot shoe substantially increases the distance the camera can "see", but can you get nearer you dog during the seizure?

What I found was that it is really easy to accidentally cover the built-in IR emitter with your hand because of its location just under the lens - and it isn't marked or anything - but you do need to turn it on manually, and obviously, not obstruct it...

Did you keep the extra light that you bought with the 305 or return everything?

first thanks for tell me your dog lived to be about 14 because I am scared to death she is gonna die every time she has them because this is all new to us and to answer your question about getting near her during her seizure yeah we are able to sit right next to her which the vet told us to do the vet said all we can do is be their for her and do our best to stop her from hurting herself during the seizure............. I keep the infrared Light because I didnt want to find out that I could use it and then have to order it again and the whole reason I want to use the infrared Light is because that is what I was told to use I went and ask several different paranormal groups because i figured who better to ask than someone that has to record in the dark all the time and they told me that I should go with a Sony camcorder and I should connect the infrared Light to the Active Interface Shoe and that should work just fine they also told me that most of all the camcorders night features are not that rely able which I know that on my old Sony Mini DV camcorder the night feature was pretty bad so thats why I am just going to go with what they told me but no matter how many groups I asked they would not tell me the model number of the camcorder they use so I did some research and decided to go with the Sony DCR-DVD405 its just that I really want to fine out if the Sony DCR-DVD405 really does have an Active Interface Shoe and if I am able to connect the HVL-IRM Infrared Light to the Active Interface Shoe like Sony's web site told me but because of the big ordeal with the Sony HC36 Mini DV camcorder I would just rather hear what the people who own the Sony DCR-DVD405 have to say because they will know if their Sony DCR-DVD405 does have the Active Interface Shoe you know what I mean and to answer your other question I am going to buy it online because I can get it at Wal-Mart for $649.99 and thats the cheapest I have found it I mean their are other stores online thats sell it cheaper but I have never heard of their store so thats why I am just going to buy it at Wal-Mart and because I'm buying it online I really want to find out first if it really does have the Active Interface Shoe and I really can connect the HVL-IRM Infrared Light to the Active Interface Shoe like Sony's web site said

so thanks for your input and thanks for telling me about your Beagle
