Question

Can anyone please help

Mar 18, 2016 2:49PM PDT

I have the lenovo z51 and have been using it for the past 3 weeks and love it, however today whilst playing a game the screen suddenly started acting strangely by having a transparent pink chequered come up on it. After restating this then happened to all the PC and on my start menu I can no longer read anything as it is all pixelated and so are the icons. It's very strange. I'm also getting error message display driver stopped responding and have tried all the suggested fixes I can find to no benefit. Please help!!!!

Answer
That's typical of a failing graphics system.

I'm sorry I'm not sure what you mean by canned air cleaning???

Cleaning the fans heatsinks with a can of compressed air.

Plenty of youtubes on how to do it. Also, thermal paste may have to be renewed.

Then it's very likely it's suffering from a common issue.

There are plenty of youtubes on canned air use. Since you never did this, start with a daily cleaning for a week, then weekly for a month and back to a 1st of the month routine.

The laptop is only 3 weeks old which is worrying me. Do you think this will be required even after 3 weeks? Is there any point in paying to have someone look at it for me?

At 3 weeks make it a warranty issue.

Unlikely to be dust at 3 weeks old.

That's a warranty call.

They will likely wipe the drive so be sure you have your stuff all backed up a few times. In fact you can try a factory restore now.

Wiped

Ok so I wiped it and it worked for about 3 hours before happening again and this time worse. My issue is, the first Lenovo I had was stolen from a hotel who claimed on the insurance to get me this one and so I have no proof of purchase etc. Do you know whether this will hinder me? I'm so frustrated ATM

Then ask the hotel or insurance on a proof of purchase so you can claim warranty.

On the other side, the first reviews I see are from June 2015, and that makes it quite unlikely it's older than 1 year, so it must still be in warranty. And you certainly have the paperwork in place to show that you are the rightful owner, I assume.
Contact Lenovo customer service and let them tell what they need.
