General discussion

Can anyone comment on the new Sidekick II from T-Mobile?

May 11, 2005 4:16AM PDT

How is the device?
How is the battery life?
Can it be used abroad for web browsing and AOL IM?
How is it as a phone?
Thanks.

Sidekick 2!

I have had the sidekick now for a couple of months and I have really enjoyed it.
The AIM is flawless, the web browser is fun for quick information but the downloading can be a bit slow depending on reception, of course. The pictures they produce are okay at best, but the e-mail, and phonebook are amazing and extremely useful. If you text message a lot there should be no other option out there for you. The ringtones are extremely limited and costly because you can only purchase them through a downloading form on the phone which also provides software and games but are usually pretty hefty in price. The speakerphone is very good which helps while driving and the normal talking position of the phone isn't as uncomfortable as people say it is. I am hoping for a little more expansion as far as this phonw will go with the firmware and software so it could can be a bit more customized. The battery life is decent with a 1-1.5 days of normal use before having to recharge. Bottom line, if you text and want a lot of different and better functioning abilities from a phone then most, this is the way to go. If you are worried about phone size, or ringtones just find something else.

SideKick II
May 19, 2005 5:03AM PDT

I've had a SideKick II for more than 6 months. Love it.

Email is perfect. Phone is almost perfect. Web is tolerable. Long (1-1.5 day) battery life.

I've never used it abroad (USA only) and don't use AOL IM.

By the way. Effective July 1, 2005 Asurion insurance for the T-Mobile Sidekick II is raising their rate to $5.99/month with a deductible of $110.00. I don't know about you, but the price I paid for the Sidekick was barely higher than the deductible.

Don?t get ripped off. I've dropped my service and you should too.

Asurion sent a policy change notice, but the details here are hidden in the fine print. Don't get snookered... drop your plan and save your money.
