While it would not cause me such pain as I can boot up and delete the old normal.dot Word template we see users that have no computer repair background that will have to restore the PC.
HOWEVER!!!! The issue of the corrupt user profile is still with us after over a DECADE! I had truly wished Microsoft would have issued a fixit tool for that but if you google XP CORRUPT PROFILE you begin to see that we can't run a Windows PC with one lone account. We need a spare Admin capable account to recover from corrupt profiles.

My laptop crashed and I have managed to use Samsung Recovery Solution to restore it. I am now in process of bringing my data back in from backup and I have a burning concern. When my computer would not boot up, it tried to repair itself, then said it could not repair, and when I looked in details, it said there was a corrupt file with locale ID of 1033. That is the templates file and my assumption is that the normal template became corrupted. My question: Is a corrupted normal template enough to crash a system? The reason I am concerned about this is I make my living word processing and I have many macros that I use that are stored in the normal template. I am scared to overwrite the new normal template with the old one if the old one is corrupt and also perish the thought of all the time of making new macros, etc. Thus the reason for my question. Trying to figure out if I'm playing with fire if I overwrite the new normal with the old one. I have done a virus search on my backup drive (where the backup old template is stored) and it is not finding a virus, so I have to think that somehow that template just corrupted which I know can happen. Any thoughts would be sincerely appreciated.
