Can a 720p TV convert a 1080p signal to usable format?

Lets say I buy a PS3, and HDMI cable, and a Blue Ray Disc movie. Will my 720p Sony LCD TV properly convert the 1080p signal to a usable 720p format?

Yes.

If you have a TV that supports 720p, you're fine with the PS3. It's apparently the people who bought TVs that cannot support 720p at all that are up the proverbial creek. All Sony's Grand Wega's from the last three years support 720p - pretty sure it's the same for LCD flat panels.

PS3 & Avi?

In reply to: Yes.

Is there a Program I can download that will allow me to view Avi files on my PS3, if so where can i download it from?
I recently transfered an MPEG file from my PC using a USB Flash Drive and it worked fine but most of the movies I have are in Avi Format and theese dont seem to work.
