Camera On Ebay

Nov 5, 2005 11:58PM PST

I am buying a digital camera through ebay from a person with zero feedback, using paypal for payment. How risky is this transaction? If I never receive the item from the seller, can I get the money back from paypal, or from my bank?

Any suggestions? Anyone with similar experience? Thanks.

u better be sure what u are doing.. if the guy has zero feedback, maybe a good guy or a bad guy.. when i always buy on eBay i tried to buy from a guy with lots of postive feedback, and not only as a buyer but also a seller..
Try to ask him lots of details abt the item and also to send u additional pictures, jst to make sure he really got the item u are bidding for.

If the guy cheated u, u never can have the whole amount u paid, but paypal can give u back some of it.. (not much actually), but be sure to keep every email and the receipt of the winner auction.

But, if the guy didnt cheat u, then dont forget to give him a positve feedback, cos on eBay that kind of ppl is what we need, no that scumback who cheat u (had couple of bad experiences).

Hope that helps!

Cheers

"New in box, unopened."

Just sharing that I found a few ebay items as per subject and when you look at the photos, the item is unpacked, unsealed and powered up.

For me, this is an instant dismissal of considering that item.

I have bought photo equipment on Ebay and been successful. Others have not. I agree with the other posts but will add one more comment. Digital camera sensors sometimes develop dead pixels. If the camera is already built and this is discovered, it may be sold as "new in box" and, technically, that is correct. Sometimes these are the cameras that are sold on the gray market. Imagine, though, a cluster of dead pixels. Depending on what you photo and where the cluster is, you may have to fix every photo you ever take! I hate to give my money away but would only buy a digital camera from a reputable dealer. If it is selling for way below the store cost, there is a reason and it is not charity. There are programs on the net that will test for dead pixels but by then it will be too late.

All ebay sellers start at zero, good ones and bad ones.

However, the only case of outright fraud that I encountered was a purchase from a (0) feedback seller through ebay a long time ago.

It was a hassle but I got about 75% of my money back through ebay. At the time, PayPal was useless in helping.

But I also found out the small town the kid lived in and filed a complaint with his local police department. They actually talked to the kid and he promised to pay me back...but never did.
