The S6000 was about as close to a DSLR as you could get.
Since that time, the trend is to smaller, lighter, higher megapixels, and more noise.
I doubt that you will like any of the newer non DSLR cameras.
It is time to look at the DSLR cameras.
Visit a camera store and pick up a DSLR camera and have a good look.
You will like what you see and feel.
I accidentally dropped my Fuji FinePix S6000, (10.7 megapixel) and it no longer works. I am not a pro, but better than amateur (I think). I have a small Canon SD1000, but not enough flexibility with that one for me. Not sure I'm ready for full dSLR yet. I use camera mainly for shooting my artwork in natural light settings, and for artistic shots of landscape, travel, people etc., mostly natural light. I do want good low light shots too. I LOVED my FinePix S6000, and can't seem to nail down a good, comparable replacement. HELP!
