Camera and pda unplugs turn off my pc

by Cica / January 28, 2009 10:09 AM PST

Every single time I unplug anything plugged into any of the front ports, the whole pc shuts down! Can anyone tell me why and how to fix it? Thanks!

System: Acer Aspire 380, Windows Vista

I assume you tried the rear USB ports and they work OK.

That would mean that the front ports are not properly grounded.

It would likely be difficult to fix.
Someone would have to speed a great deal of time finding the source of the problem.

I suggest you buy a USB extension cable and plug it into one of the rear ports and leave the open end near the front of the computer.
That way, it would be handy when you wanted to plug/unplug the PDA/Camera.

Here is a such a cable:

Thanks, Snapshot. Do they have one with a couple of ports on them? and would I be able to just leave the cords plugged into it and still remove the cam or whatver?

USB Hub

The thing you suggest is called a HUB.

There are powered and unpowered HUBs.

Powered is for devices that pull a lot of power (such as scanners).
A powered HUB will come with a power supply that plugs into a wall plug.

Unpowered HUBs do not need an electrical outlet.

Yes you can leave cables plugged into the hub or the extension cable.

Here are a number of USB HUBs:
Pick the one that fits your need:

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
