Camcorders & Polaroids

Nov 14, 2010 4:13PM PST

I hope this is the right place to post... but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a good value compact camcorder/video recorder.

I'm a student in highschool and just wanted something to go around and do amateur filming with, just everyday stuff nothing high end.

So in essence, looking for something small, relatively cheap & good quality!

Cheers

P.S. If anyone knows anything about Polaroid cameras, could they suggest which cameras they would suggest I buy? I'm buying off ebay and regularly find myself wondering whether to buy the Spirit 600 or the Spectra etc

Regarding Polaroid:

Polaroid is no longer the company it was.
Polaroid was sold to a company that finds foreign partners for American companies.
The Polaroid name is just used for marketing.
They no longer manufacture anything.
They import goods from other companies (mostly China) and put their name on them.
The quality of those goods is unknown.

Flip and the like

For cheap and good, you probably just want something like the Flip MinoHD, or similar camcorders from other manufacturers. Sometimes they can be found on sale for $100 or so.

I had the uber-cool Polaroid Spectra Onyx back in the day, which had a translucent case so you could see the electronics inside. The problem nowadays with these cameras is that the film is very expensive and hard to find. Having and using a genuine Polaroid camera is only good for the novelty and curiosity. Digital camera are cheaper and take much better pictures than the old Polaroids. There is a slightly more modern incarnation of the instant print camera made by Fujifilm called the Instax.
