Question

Camcorder with HD, Mic In, Slow Mo Low Lux

Nov 7, 2014 7:27PM PST

Hey All,

I am after a HD camcorder with the following features;

1 Full HD
2) Decent Slow Motion with variable sutter speed
3) MIC input
4) SDHC/SHXC
5) Good low lux around or 1.0 (many see 2 to 4lux which is ordinary in low light situations
6) Around $1000 AUD

Finally the smaller in size the better

Loosing one feature like Better Low lux performance, MIC input or Slow motion there are many great camcorders. But adding MIC in reduces many of them and add good slow motion with decent shutter speed takes the options to very few it seems.

I found one suitable

HDC-MDH1 AVCHD but the size and lux may not be ideal.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks so much in advance, Pete

Canon HF G25? Does not have the high frame rate you want for the slow motion requirement. You should be able to download the manual from Canon to verify that it does what you want. Certainly smaller than the shoulder-mount Panny... But the low light behavior should be better since it does have a much larger lens diameter and much larger imaging chip.

I did not see high frame rate capture in the manual.

Low light rating is 2 lux @ 1/30 second shutter speed.

Lens diameter is smaller than 58mm, I think.

There are other significant differences, too.

Is 100fps UK or 120fps USA for slow motion capture. The lens is 49mm so smaller than the Canon but, as with all these cameras, the low light performance is enhanced with video amplifiers. If OP wants zero light performance! he could look at the 850 which has infra red recording plus an IR light mounted under the lens.

faster frame rates (for slow motion). I did not see them in the manual. What's the camcorder menu option path? Or is there a button on the outside of the camcorder to make that switch easy?
