Camcorder for web only use?

Mar 7, 2004 2:19PM PST

I haven't owned a cam corder before. I want to use my cam corder on trips to events and in technical descriptive videos. ( video showing how to assemble/dissemble things )

I will only ever distribute the video electronically. Therefore the most important feature is to be able to transfer my video to the computer. It would be good if the camera handled low level light.

Do all modern cam corders transfer their video to the computer? Should i try to get an mpeg4 camera?

Any advice appreciated.

That would be Firewire and software. There are other new all digital DV cams such as the Sony which place the video on recordable DVD which is interesting since it saves the end users from installing Firewire and some software.

You still get to video edit.

That's a subject that should be treated in the user manual of your camcorder. Just one possible example:
1. Get the sd-card out.
2. Put the sd-card in the sd-card-reader in your PC.
3. Use My Computer to copy it to your hard disk

But some cams don't have a sd-card, but a hard disk. You can't take that out. So then it comes down to using a cable and possibly software from the cam manufacturer that you have to install on your PC.

As I said: read the manual.
