like to have quality good enough to use footage for music videos but mostly youtube at the moment.

would also like to buy a wireless connection to record direct from the mixing desk.

budget $1000-$2000 tops

Just because

the video would be used on YouTube does not necessarily mean a lesser camcorder or poor quality can - or should - be used.

Thx for your response.

90% of video will be of a soloist where everything is run thru the desk using backing tracks, live guitar & vocal. the guitar source is thru a guitar simulation direct into the desk.

the wireless connection I was mentioning was merely to send the mix straight to the camera from the desk to achieve best quality recorded signal without running leads from the desk to the camcorder.

if the wireless system is too expenses I will look at recording audio straight to another computer and match up the audio & video in the editing.

this will probably be the way I go as I have a computer than will become spare soon and suitable for this purpose but would still like to find out about wireless options to send audio signal direct to the cam as I'm shooting.

appreciate your advice. sounds like you've done a bit of this.

I am totally new and appreciate any advice and thoughts on this.

regards

I would never recommend a hard disc drive

camcorder to anyone unless they have a very specific reason and fully understand what they are getting into. As it is, I am not a big fan of any consumer-grade AVCHD compressing camcorder, but if that is what you want, and the HDR-CX500 series is no longer available (by the way, the HDR-XR550 is no longer listed at sony.com, either), then the HDR-CX700. The XR models have a hard disc drive; the CX models use flash memory.

No Offence taken

Its all good no offense taken. As i said I am totally new to video and I really appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me.
guess I would not even know about the wireless send if not for that fact a few years ago I was opening for deep purple and a camera man friend of mine video the show and ran straight from the desk to camera via a wireless send.

I will most likely be buying a macpro notebook in the next weeks or so leaving me with the old computer which i can then set up as recording hard drive for live which will be better allowing me to send via usb straight into cubase with everything on separate channels which i can then mix later if needed. my mixing desk is a allen & heath zed 10fx which has usb out on the desk, great feature.

In regards to Camera, I'm open to ideas but does the compression between tape and say memory card or hard drive in the camera really affect it that much.

i just looked at the canon site and checked out there hfs models also the VIXIA HF G10 http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/camcorders/consumer_camcorders/vixia_hf_g10
which seems to have most of the specs of the hfs model + some.

thx again for your time.

if you happen to have skype i would really appreciate a chat and your advice.

cheers

Cool. Good to know.

Since your "cameraman friend" did what you apparently want to do, it seems to me that asking them for a shopping list would be appropriate.
