Just commenting that such is not unusally if one doesn't install the drivers before plugging in the USB device.

See if http://www.usbman.com helps.

In that case, your application will have to talk to said device. Not all firewire devices work with Windows Movie Maker.

Also, there are some machines that require current BIOS, motherboard drivers and some cameras need you to install the video camera drivers before you connect such.

See if the PPA USB2.0 + 1934a Combo card is noted to have any issues at usbman.com. I will not do this for you.

In order to recognize panasonic camera by windows xp, download the xp patch q329256_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe from the site http://www.station-drivers.com/page/maj.htm or
Microsoft.

This update addresses the "Inconsistent Gap Count Can Cause 1394 Devices to Not Enumerate" issue in Windows XP, and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article Q329256.

After patching connect your panasonic camcorder and if god wills it will work.
